This activity is about mindfulness and connecting with the people we spend our time with. Together with your grown-up, find a time that you can sit together each week and share your feelings.

When life is busy, it can be easy to miss moments of connection with the people we live with or the grown-ups we spend most of our time with. By choosing one day a week where we take a moment to sit and reflect on things you are grateful for, you can strengthen the bonds between you and create beautiful memories for the future.

Grandpa Tom introduced this activity to Robin and Willow to help them share the lovely things that happened to them each week. They love how happy it makes them feel!

You will need:
  • An old jam jar (or coffee jar or similar)
  • Pencils or crayons
  • Small pieces of paper / sticky notes
Steps:
  1. Choose a day and time each week to talk to each other about something that made you feel happy or grateful this week.
  2. On your piece of paper write or draw the thing you talked about. For example, it could be that another person smiled at you or you went to the park.
  3. Fold your paper and put it in the jar.
  4. Do this each week and at the end of the year you can empty the jar and look back on all the wonderful things that brought you joy or made you feel grateful.

Just seeing your jar can remind you of all the happy things you’ve done!
